There Are Multiple Degrees And Careers Available Within The Hospitality Field

One of the largest fields employing thousands of graduates each year is the hospitality industry. Jobs in hospitality range from preparing and serving food to manning the front desk at a hotel to dealing black jack in a Casino. If you would like to study for a career in hospitality, you will be happy to know that there are different degree options available.

An associate's degree program which would be a two year investment in the hospitality field, offers many different programs depending on your career goals. For instance you may want a management position and need an associate's degree to assure an assistant manager job upon graduation. However you may prefer a more creative contribution and opt for an associate's degree in culinary arts.

Perhaps you are looking for more responsibility and a higher salary and are willing to invest four years in order to earn a bachelor's degree. A degree in hospitality management offers numerous career opportunities such as hotel manager, event coordinator, catering director, or human resource manager. The best part about this bachelor's degree is the flexibility because you can start out in one of these jobs and transfer to another.

You may want to continue your education and earn a master of business administration in hospitality management which will propel your career to the upper levels of your company and give you an edge over the competition. This degree qualifies you for the general manager level, overseeing department managers in a large hotel or institution. If you want to start out in a mid-level executive role then an MBA in hospitality management is probably your best option.

When you think about the hospitality field you don't normally think about doctorate degrees, however if culinary arts is your passion, you may want to consider a culinary arts doctorate degree. Most of today's chefs do not have doctorate degrees but if you want to advance your career beyond the kitchen this is the way to accomplish that. A doctorate degree will provide you with knowledge of food theories, cultural studies of cuisine, sanitation, and mass food production.

Besides meeting your educational goals, an advanced degree will open the door to teaching culinary arts at the collegiate level. Also with this doctorate degree you can move beyond executive chef to top management positions not to mention the salary implications. Not only do you gain a competitive edge with a doctorate degree but you may combine your knowledge with food science for research purposes.

If this sounds like something you might want to pursue you will first need a bachelor's degree in the culinary field. Higher education in this field is still somewhat rare so you will need to do extensive research to find the program that best suits your needs. You may even find an online PhD program in culinary arts and learn at home.
